Spencer Pearson

Fine Artist and Oil Painter of the American Landscape

Spencer Pearson is a fine artist known for his atmospheric plein air and studio paintings, working primarily in oil and gouache. Splitting his time between his Granville, Ohio and Petoskey, Michigan studios, Spencer draws deep inspiration from the diverse landscapes of the Midwest and the American countryside.

Spencer’s artistic foundations were formed in his childhood on a small berry farm outside Kennesaw, Georgia. Summer mornings spent picking blackberries and long afternoons exploring the surrounding woods and creeks gave him a boundless sense of imagination and a lifelong connection to the outdoors. His aunt—a professional artist—first introduced him to oil painting, sparking a passion that grew steadily as he matured. Plein air painting soon became a natural extension of his early outdoor wanderings, blending his love of nature with his desire to portray the American landscape with immediacy and authenticity.

Today, Spencer travels extensively to paint on location, capturing the places he visits and the subjects that have become personal signatures—boats, planes, trains, and automobiles. His work reflects both a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship and an adventurous spirit rooted in firsthand observation.

Before becoming a full-time artist, Spencer built a successful career in healthcare. Ultimately, he left that path to pursue painting wholeheartedly and has never looked back. Although he studied art in college, he does not hold a formal degree; instead, he has sought mentorship from nationally acclaimed artists across the country. This commitment to continued learning has given him a broad and versatile command of technique, style, and material.

Across every canvas, Spencer’s work reveals a profound connection to place, memory, and the quiet beauty of the American landscape.
